Instructor Biographies

Eve SmythEve Smyth received her degree in theatre from San Francisco State University, and has performed and taught classes running the gambit from scripted theatre to improvisation. Before moving to Southern Oregon in 2002, Eve taught and performed with Bay Area TheaterSports and was director at the Young Audiences program at BATS Improv, where she facilitated improvisation workshops and performances in schools throughout the Bay Area. She has appeared with several other Bay Area improv groups, including a writing performance group called “First Draft.” She also co-founded a theatre company which performed original comedies and toured throughout the Northwest for more than ten years. Eve currently performs with Oregon Stage Works, Free Range Theatre, and the comedy improv troupe, The Hamazons.

Laura DerocherBruce Wallace Hostetler
has directed opera, musicals, and theatre productions from New York to Santa Cruz, including numerous world premieres. His credits include productions for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, Insight Out Theatre, Sun Valley Shakespeare Festival, Southern Oregon University, Rogue Opera and Carnegie Mellon Schools of Drama and Music. Bruce co-created and directed the first four of the Rogue Opera’s highly acclaimed children’s touring shows, and is currently working on the fourth. He served as Producing Artistic Director of the Backporch Theater Company in Indiana; as Producing Director for the Carnegie Mellon Summer New Plays Project; and, most recently, as Assistant Producer for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. He was a guest artist/visiting faculty member at the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, and has taught master classes at universities across the country. Bruce holds an M.F.A. in Directing from the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama.
